Snoop Dogg recalls a funny moment while working with Katy Perry.
Snoop Dogg was the latest guest on Logan Paul and Mike Majlak’s podcast Impaulsive, where the rapper discuss a range of topics, including final moments with 2Pac & Kobe, why Lebron isn’t the GOAT, betting millions on Jake Paul, buying Death Row Records, Kendrick Lamar’s new album and more. The rapper was also asked about his 2010 collaboration “California Gurls” with Katy Perry.
“Look how I got on that song,” he said. “She reach out to me called my peoples, right? And she was like I want you on this song with me because she was tired of hearing the Jay-Z Alicia Keys song [Empire State Of Mind] New York, New York. She was like I hear it everywhere we gotta make something for California. Not like hating, but just like we gotta represent where we from because this song is f–king amazing. This sh*t is amazing everybody saying New York, like we need one. I’m like alright what’s happen where do you want me to come? Meet at the studio. I come in the studio and she got a motherf–king d–k shrine. I can’t make this sh*t up. A black d–k shine when I walked in the studio. I’m like what the f–k going on,”
He continues, “I don’t know what it was it a vibe and I wasn’t trying to get her and she wasn’t trying to get at me. Just the motherf–ker was there. I’m like I guess she like black d–ks in the studio I don’t know. I put the music on and do my thing and knock it out. Love the song. So, now she like the video, ‘cool no problem.’ When are we doing the video, we doing it here. I pull up to the video shoot, they like ‘Katy want to holla at you she on set’ no problem. I go on set, she b-tt na–d laying on the clouds. ‘Hey Snoop,’ ‘I like well God Damn.’ I’ve seen a d–k shine and you na–d, I can’t figure this sh-t out. Let’s get this video over with.”
Snoop continued by saying he loved Perry. He believed he contributed to the popularity of “California Gurls.” “She had a cake with no candles on it, then she put me on ‘California Gurls,’ and it went to No. 1 … I’m probably the most popular rapper in the world, but I don’t make pop music. “I make gangsta sh-t,” he continued. “I don’t cross over to pop — pop crosses over to me … I don’t ever aim for radio play. I make sh-t that feels good to me, and if top 40 radio catches wind, then great. If they don’t I’m still gonna do what I gotta do.”
The track served as the lead single off Katy Perry’s third studio album “Teenage Dream.” The track was a worldwide success, peaking at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for six consecutive weeks, giving Katy Perry her second number-one single in the US and Snoop Dogg his third. California Gurls was co-written by Katy Perry, Snoop Dogg, Bonnie McKee, and produced by Dr. Luke, Max Martin, and Benny Blanco.
The song earned Snoop Dogg his first ever RIAA Diamond Plaque, as it moved 10 million units in the US. This is the fourth Diamond single of Katy Perry’s career, which broke the tie with Lady Gaga.

According to source, Perry believed Snoop would be ideal for the single because he is a California native.
“I started to insert obvious Snoop Dogg references like ‘sipping gin and juice’ and more obvious ones like ‘Snoop Doggy Dogg on the stereo,’” Perry recalled. “And I was like, ‘If Snoop Dogg was on a song about the West Coast, it would be truly legit!’ So I kind of lured him with all those little odes to Snoop Dogg already in the ‘California Gurls’ lyrics.”
