Jack Harlow recalls his phone conversation with Eminem.
Jack Harlow was one of the guests on the incredible 2021 MTV Video Music Awards which took place on Sunday night live from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Before the event started, Jack Harlow had an interview on the Red Carpet, where he talked about his successful year, along with details about his conversation with Eminem over the phone. The “what’s poppin” star has called Eminem his influence several times, and he got to work with him on “Killer” Remix, along with Cordae.
“We didn’t get to meet, but we had a phone call that meant the world to me,” said Jack Harlow. “I haven’t shared it with the world yet, but I can’t wait until the world hears it. He gave me a lot of props that any artist would love to get. Sometimes, the best gem is just somebody you admire, letting you know who you think you are. He let me know, ‘You’re that. You’re dope.’ I’ve waited a decade to hear that. So it was special.”
At the event, Jack Harlow also took the stage alongside Lil Nas X for a live performance on their hit “Industry Baby.” Lil Nas X took the stage with a full marching band behind him for the concert, before stripping off his shirt and performing in front of a Montero Prison background. After walking out of a jail cell, Harlow joined him on stage for his verse. The song changed to ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’ just before they finished their performance.
The performance comes only days before Lil Nas X’s debut album, ‘Montero,’ is released on September 17. The title tune, ‘Industry Baby,’ and ‘Sun Goes Down’ will be among the 15 tracks on the LP. Along with Harlow, the album includes duets with Megan Thee Stallion, Elton John, Miley Cyrus, and Doja Cat.
Jack Harlow previously stated that he doesn’t like the new generation slandering the Detroit Rapper. “Eminem’s catching a lot of slander from the new generation,” he said. “I think they don’t have the context of what he was. Truly an icon. When I was 9 through 13, that’s really who I wanted to be. I used to watch 8 Mile, and I’ll watch the scene of him in the warehouse and just get off. That movie and the freestyles at the end, I knew the lyrics to all of them. I love Eminem. And I don’t like the new slander. I don’t like the new wave that slanders him.”
“Come Home the Kids Miss You” will be released on Generation Now and Atlantic Records in 2022, following his debut album “That’s What They All Say.” His most recent album included a slew of hits, including his breakout tune “What’s Poppin.”
