Snoop Dogg claims he owns Dr. Dre’s “The Chronic” masters, Dre’s attorney denies it.
Snoop Dogg recently acquired his former label Death Row Records from MNRK Music Group. The rapper sat down with TIDAL’s Elliott Wilson for a detailed interview, where he revealed that he now owns the master of his earlier albums, along with Dr. Dre’s classic “The Chronic.
“As far as 2Pac’s masters, 2Pac’s masters came back to him last year,” he said. “But I got a great relationship with his estate, and I’m pretty sure we’re going to be able to work something out … to continue some Death Row 2Pac business now that Snoop Dogg is in control of Death Row. Same with Dr. Dre and The Chronic. I got The Chronic album. I got Doggy style, Tha Doggfather, Murder Was the Case, Dogg Food, Above the Rim. I got all those records.”

Snoop Dogg understands the importance of Death Row Records’ library, particularly for those who grew up in the 1980s and 1990s. As he put it, “It’s doing what needs to be done with the catalog, because these songs are symbolic in a lot of people’s lives and upbringings.”
However, now Dr. Dre’s attorney made a statement that the reports are false, and his client fully owns his 1992 debut album. “There are false reports out regarding ownership by Death Row of Dr. Dre’s The Chronic,” attorney Howard King said in a statement to Complex. “Dr. Dre owns 100 percent of The Chronic.”
