Benzino Explains Why He Dissed Eminem The Culture of Hip-Hop Was My Life, It Wasn't His Life

Benzino talks about the reason he dissed Eminem.

Benzino has been trying to reignite his decade-old beef with the Detroit Rapper Eminem by taking random shots at him on social media. He recently trashed Eminem’s new Deluxe Edition of “Music To Be Murdered By“, after which he received a response from Royce da 5’9″. Then Benzino went on to fire shots at Royce as well and also challenged him for a Verzuz battle.

Now he appeared on QuirtRoom’s “Flip Da Script” Podcast for a new interview where he explains why he dissed Eminem. “I took a couple of shots at him on a song, that was buried on a mixtape that his people must’ve got it,” says Benzino. “Then he came back with a whole mixtape against me. So this was Hip-Hop, at this point, ok I’m not tryna out rap this ni**a, but my words in there hit him hand because he was mad. My raps came from a real sh*t, I did sell crack, I was on some gangster sh*t. So all that sh*t Eminem was playin with words, but that was my life. That wasn’t his life. The culture of Hip-Hop was my life, it wasn’t his life.

He continues, “When you look at Eminem, he tries to be tough, he tries to be this tough white kid persona from Detroit, but he wasn’t from Detroit and he wasn’t tough. So why don’t you be who you really are, you gonna come at me, I’m gonna expose you who you really are because I’m a real street ni**a. And I’m gonna expose that tough guy sh*t. You just wasn’t like a rapper because you tryna be tough and you tryna question my street credibility in your raps.

However, Benzino now claims that he regrets bringing their feud to such a personal level, and that if given the opportunity, he would apologise to the Shady Records mogul.

When the Eminem situation happened, I was just on top and I didn’t have to answer to nobody,” he said. “When you’re on top and even with a lot of people in New York [and] even with labels, you still have to answer to somebody. Me and Dave [Mays, co-founder] was [at The Source], and at that point, I wanted to prove to everybody like, ‘Listen, I’m the one running this here and I can do this without reservation’…it was a mistake for me getting involved in the situation with Eminem.
