Andre 3000 Releases Statement on Drake Leaking His Collab with Kanye West

Andre 3000 reacts to Drake leaking his Kanye West collaboration.

Yesterday, Drake mixed a playlist for Sound 42 Radio on SiriusXM which featured new songs from the “Certified Lover Boy” album as well as some unreleased ones. The listeners get an unexpected surprise when an unreleased Kanye West and Andre 3000 collaboration called “Life of the Party” starts playing. In the track, Kanye West was taking shots at the Toronto rapper.

In the song, West also acknowledges longstanding collaborator CyHi, saying, “CyHi told me to my face that ‘Sicko Mode’ was his biggest song/Well go on, ‘cuz Donda was the best ghostwriter I ever had.” In another sentence, ‘Ye appears to encourage Travis Scott—who goes by the moniker “Trav”—to “smile for these white people if you want.”

Now the 46-year-old Atlanta rapper himself responded to the situation and revealed that when they recorded the song, it didn’t have shots at Drake. “A few weeks ago Kanye reached out about me being a part of the Donda album,” Andre says in a statement. “I was inspired by his idea to make a musical tribute to his mom. It felt appropriate to me to support the Donda concept by referencing my own mother, who passed away in 2013. We both share that loss. I thought it was a beautiful choice to make a clean album but, unfortunately, I didn’t know that was the plan before I wrote and recorded my verse. It was clear to me that an edited ‘clean’ format of the verse would not work without having the raw, original also available. So, sadly, I had to be omitted from the original album release.

The track I received and wrote to didn’t have the diss verse on it and we were hoping to make a more focused offering for the Donda album but I guess things happen like they are supposed to. It’s unfortunate that it was released in this way and two artists that I love are going back and forth. I wanted to be on Certified Lover Boy too. I just want to work with people that inspire me. Hopefully I can work with Kendrick on his album. I’d love to work with Lil’ Baby, Tyler and Jay-Z. I respect them all.

3 Stacks, on the other hand, uses his initial verse to have an emotional chat with Donda West, which fans are already pointing to as one of the strongest verses on Donda despite missing the cut.

Drizzy also took to Instagram around the time of the leak to publish a photo of himself standing next to a car with the comment “Waste removal.” The rest of his radio takeover includes the release of two new songs, including a remix of Playboi Carti’s “One Day” and collaboration with Rema called “Mention Me.”

The leaks are now being removed from all over social media but there is still no statement from Kanye West’s camp.
