Cardi B Responds After Latto Reveal Why She Dissed Her On New Album

Latto Explains Why She Mentioned Cardi B On Her New Album, Cardi Responds.

Latto is finally opening up about her lyrics aimed at Cardi B on her new album “Big Mama“. The rapper recently appeared on The Breakfast Club, where she confirmed that her lyrics on the song “Gimme Dat” were indeed about Cardi. However, she explained that the verse came from a personal place rather than an attempt to start a feud.

The situation goes back to last year when a leaked phone call involving Cardi B went viral online. In the clip, Cardi appeared upset and mentioned Latto while arguing about another situation.

At the time, Cardi later apologised publicly and said she respected Latto. Still, the comments clearly stayed with the Atlanta rapper.

On “Gimme Dat,” Latto raps: “Bi–h said what? Let’s clock it / Really got a Hermes store in my closet / Talkin’ ’bout buyin’ big mama a bag like my ni–a ain’t already bought it.”

During her interview, Latto explained exactly why she felt the need to address the situation in her music.

Latto Explains Her Side

Speaking on The Breakfast Club, Latto said: “Well, yes it was about Cardi. I rap about what’s going on in my life.”

She continued: “I was at an early stage of my pregnancy and I rushed to the studio to do this verse for her first week sales. Literally like two days later, I’m seeing all over the internet I’m being called pu–y.” Latto said the comments hurt even more because she considered Cardi a friend. “I’m pregnant, emotions tied. And it was someone I deadass looked at as a friend. We was on a texting basis.”

Despite addressing the issue on her album, Latto made it clear she is not completely closing the door on fixing things. “I’m open to a conversation, when, I don’t know. It wasn’t a diss, it was where I was in life.”

Cardi B Responds

After clips from the interview began circulating online, Cardi B shared a lengthy response and explained that she understood why Latto felt hurt. Cardi admitted that she regretted the comments and said she had tried several times to make things right.

I truly understand how you feel…and that’s exactly why I chose to apologize publicly because the disrespect became public. On that call I didn’t even mean to call you that, I didn’t mean any harm.. There’s a difference in what I said vs what I meant. What I could have said was you was too forgiving and gave too much mercy in that situation.. But it was a heated conversation and I let my mouth get the best of me. When the call came out I was eight months pregnant, had just released my album, and was extremely overwhelmed and emotional.

She continued: “Thats not to excuse what I said but to let you know where I was in my head. I genuinely felt bad about what happened. In 2025 and 2026 I made multiple attempts to connect…I spoke with your manager, your sister, and even texted you directly to take full responsibility. I always had love and respect for you ! I always wanted to make it right but making it right looks different for the both of us… I wanted to connect with you but you wanted to address it on your album.

Where Things Stand Now

For now, it doesn’t appear that Latto and Cardi B are actively feuding, but there is still unresolved tension between the two artists. Both rappers have publicly shared their sides of the story, and both have acknowledged that emotions were running high when everything happened.

Whether they eventually sit down and have a private conversation remains to be seen. However, fans now have a much clearer understanding of why Latto referenced Cardi on *Big Mama* and how Cardi feels about it today.
