Rod Wave performs “Tombstone” on The Tonight Show.
Rod Wave continues the promo run for his new album ‘SoulFly‘ as he made a visit to The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon where he performed his single called “Tombstone” for which he dropped a music video last month. Rod Wave’s new project debuted at the top of Billboard 200 with moving over 130k units in the first week.
Wave has released three albums in three years, with SoulFly coming after Pray 4 Love last year and Ghetto Gospel in 2019. SoulFly was selected one of the best albums of March by Rolling Stone, who said that its “unassuming nature applies to the music as well; Rod Wave isn’t an exceptionally skilled rapper, and his narratives of hardship and achievement tend to be quite pro forma.” But his voice’s honesty, desire, empathy, and complexity elevate the song above mediocrity.”
Wave’s third album SoulFly debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart with 130,000 equivalent album units just days after the “Tombstone” video. Wave previously debuted at No. 2 with his 2020 album Pray 4 Love.
Wave promoted the song “Street Runner” with a video game and a contest before to the album’s release. The collaboration with Krool Toys, which previously released a bespoke game fashioned by Future and Lil Uzi Vert’s Pluto x Baby Pluto, includes a playable arcade-inspired game as well as the chance to win a customised Game Boy Advance.
