Beyonce performs “Be Alive” at the 94th annual Academy Awards.
The 94th annual Academy Awards took place earlier tonight, which was opened by none other than Superstar Beyonce. While the main ceremony was held at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, Beyonce’s performance was made at Venus and Serena Williams’ hometown tennis courts in Compton, California.
The “Lemonade” singer performed her song called “Be Alive”, for which she also received first Oscar nomination for Best Original Song. The track appeared on the Soundtrack to Williams sisters’ movie King Richard. The performance also featured Blue Ivy Carter, King Richard actresses, Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton, and the Compton Cowboys Junior Equestrians.
Will Smith, who played the role of William’s sisters’ father in the film, won the Oscar in the Best Actor Category. However, the actor made headlines for slapping the comedian host Chris Rock for joking about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith at the event.
Bey and her all-female dancers stepped into position on the palm tree-lined courts, dressed in tennis ball green against a similar backdrop. They were joined by an orchestra with neon green-clad instruments. “Oscars, I want you to tell these people where we are,” said Bey before chanting “City of Compton!” in an homage to Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre’s “Nuthin’ But a ‘G’ Thang.’”
