The 20th BET Awards took place last night which was a unique event as it was held virtually due to COVID-10 pandemic lockdowns. Artists such as DaBaby, John Legend, and Alicia Keys utilized their virtual performances to draw attention to the ongoing rallies for justice against police brutality, giving the night a strong message. Megan Thee Stallion’s strong version of “Savage” and Jennifer Hudson’s motivating performance of “Young, Black, and Gifted” were two moments that highlighted Black joy.
On June 15, 2020, the candidates were revealed. Drake earned the most nominations, with six, followed by Roddy Ricch and Megan Thee Stallion, who each received five. The event will be hosted by actress and comedian Amanda Seales, who was revealed the same day. Michelle Obama presented Beyoncé with the Humanitarian Award.
The award show was opened by Roddy Ricch, who performed his songs “High Fashion” and “The Box“. John Legend performed his track “Never Break“, Megan Thee Stallion performed “Girls In The Hood” and “Savage“, Roddy Ricch again hit the stage with DaBaby for “Rockstar“.
Lil Wayne also performed his track called “Kobe Bryant“, Anderson .Paak and Jay Rock joined forces for “Lockdown“, Summer Walker & Usher gave a performance of their collaboration “Come Thru“. Check out all the performance below.
