In The latest List of Top 10 Hottest Rappers according to Complex Magazine Drake is leading the way as he’s Ranked 1 by the Magazine following Rappers Nicki Minaj, Eminem, Lil Wayne, and Kanye West who are Ranked 2, 3, 4, and 5. Complex Networks is a New York-based media and entertainment firm focused on teenage culture. [10] Fashion designer Marc (Ecko) Milecofsky launched Complex as a bi-monthly magazine. Every year, we pay special attention to this age group, identifying the rappers in their twenties who are now generating the finest music and engaging with audiences. This list focuses on overall skill, quality, impact, and influence in the period since we issued our previous rankings on Nov. 24, 2020, and is intended to serve as a snapshot of the top hip-hop artists in their 20s during the past year. Artists that haven’t produced much music in the last year may have a harder time climbing this list than others, but if the quality and impact of their carefully chosen releases has stayed strong, they’ll be rewarded.
It’s still crucial to remember that the Best Rapper Alive discussion is not the same as the GOAT debate. Being the Best does not imply that you are the biggest or the most successful; it just means that you are the Best at the time. Of course, in hip-hop, being the best is inextricably linked to being BIG. And being at your best does not automatically make you the best, so if your prime coincides with someone else’s, well, there’s always next year.
Many musicians and industry leaders, from T.I. to Hot 97’s Ebro Darden, expressed their personal perspectives on who the 50 best rappers of all time are in 2019. Lil Durk even made a list of his own. Now, over two and a half years later, Game is upset about being left off the lists of Ebro, T.I., and DJ Funkmaster Flex.
While 2018 was a year of giants re-entering the battle — we received albums from virtually every major artist, from Drake to Nicki Minaj, Kanye West to Jay-Z — 2019 was all about fresh faces. DaBaby closed out the year with two thunderous statements in Baby on Baby and Kirk; Megan Thee Stallion quickly and confidently established herself as one of the most charismatic lyricists of her generation, and Roddy Ricch broke through with a new hit seemingly every month before dropping his uniformly excellent Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial.
Shock rap is typically confined to the underground, where artists such as Ill Bill and Necro have thrived. Eminem, on the other hand, is one of the few rappers to break into the mainstream, owing to censor-friendly songs about rape, murder, and drug addiction presented in a tongue-twisting, thought-provoking manner. If it weren’t so technically remarkable, it might easily be deemed attention-getting for the sake of a successful career.
In 2013, Complex Networks’ owned and controlled and partner sites, social media platforms, and YouTube channels reached over 90 million unique users each month. With the December 2016/January 2017 issue, the print magazine came to an end.
In 2023, Billboard & Vibe released a list of 50 best rappers of all time to celebrate 50 years of hip-hop. JAY-Z was named the greatest rapper of all time with the top spot. Kendrick Lamar follows him on numbers, and the Nas and Tupac. Eminem was named fifth best rapper of all time on the list.
First and foremost, this is deceptive. As previously stated, Drake’s ranking benefits from the fact that when you search for “Drake,” you may also be searching for phrases such as “Drake Hotel,” “Drake and Josh,” or “Vera Drake.” Regardless, the recent increase in his chart position reveals that the Young Money rapper Aubrey Graham, born Aubrey Graham, is the major reason people search the phrase “Drake.” And that phrase is more popular than any other on this list.

Also Complex put out the list for the promising rappers in 2020. There isn’t a single style that links all these young artists together. Rappers like Rod Wave and 2KBABY are prospering with music that falls on the more melodic side of hip-hop at the same time as Brooklyn musicians like Pop Smoke and Fivio Foreign are carving out a niche with hard-hitting drill music.
The Game has never stayed away from discussions about rapper rankings. Last year, he shared his top ten list of living rappers, which included Jay-Z, Nas, Lil Wayne, and others, but he also stated that he could go “bar for bar” with anyone on his list. Furthermore, he claimed a few months prior that he is the best rapper from Compton and was the one who taught Kendrick Lamar the ropes.
There isn’t a common aesthetic among all of these emerging artists. Brooklyn musicians like Pop Smoke and Fivio Foreign are carving out a niche for themselves with hard-hitting drill music, while rappers like Rod Wave and 2KBABY are flourishing with music that leans toward the more melodic end of hip-hop.
