The Game celebrates 18 years of “The Documentary”.
It’s been 18 years since The Game dropped his second studio album “The Documentary”, which was his only project on Aftermath and G-Unit Records. The West Coast rapper celebrated the occasion on his social media and also shouted out the executive producer 50 Cent and Dr. Dre, along with Busta Rhymes and Snoop Dogg.
“18 years ago today…. A hip hop classic was born,” The Game wrote. “All I wanted to do was tell my story & make sure my son would never live the life I did. @snoopdogg passed me the torch, @bustarhymes kept me focused… @drdre laid the foundation & @50cent helped put the puzzle together.”
“I took @jonathanmannion to the depths of Compton, California & showed him the heart of what I survived. He captured the essence of my city, my hood & brought to the world my vision. Always remember, it is no longer a dream once it becomes reality,” he added.
The project was recorded in 2003-2004 and was released in 2005. It featured production from high-profiles like Dr. Dre, Kanye West, Timbaland, Scott Storch, Just Blaze, and more. The guest appearances came from Eminem, Nate Dogg, Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent, Tony Yayo, Marsha Ambrosius and more.
Upon its release, the album reached the top spot on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling over half a million copies in its opening week. The Recording Industry Association of America certified the album double Platinum on March 23, 2005, and it was among the top ten best-selling records of the year. As of March 2005, the album has sold more than 2.5 million copies in the United States.
