SZA Reveals “CTRL” album release date & Cover Art.
SZA is all set to release her new album “CTRL” as she announces its release date of it. Top Dawg CEO shared a video trailer for the project with narration from RZA and the release date at the end, which is June 9th. She also revealed the official artwork for the album.
The album, which is her debut studio release, is set to be released on June 9, 2017. The cover art features a black and white photograph of SZA standing in front of a window, with the album title written in bold white letters across the top. SZA has been teasing the release of “CTRL” for some time, and fans have been eagerly anticipating the album’s arrival.
Travis Scott, Kendrick Lamar, James Fauntleroy, and Isaiah Rashad all make cameos on the album. SZA’s personal experiences and the complexities of contemporary relationships are explored in the album’s candid topic, which includes desire, competitiveness, envy, sexualization, social networking, and poor self-esteem.
The album opened at number three on the Billboard 200 in the United States, selling 60,000 equivalent album units in its first week. Additionally, the album’s tracks received 49.52 million streaming during that week. The album’s position in the charts fell to #11 in its second week. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) awarded the album double platinum certification on July 31, 2020, for cumulative sales and album-equivalent units of more than two million in the US. The album and its tracks were nominated for four Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist for SZA.
SZA was nominated for five Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist, Best Urban Contemporary Album, Best R&B Performance for “The Weekend,” Best R&B Song “Supermodel,” and Best Rap/Sung Performance for “Love Galore” starring Travis Scott at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards (2018).
It was also listed in various magazines’ year-end greatest music lists. The album was number 472 in Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time in 2020.

Five singles preceded Ctrl: “Drew Barrymore,” “Love Galore,” “The Weekend,” “Broken Clocks,” and “Garden (Say It Like Dat).” It gained considerable accolades from music reviewers upon its debut, with many praising its coherence and composition, as well as SZA’s vocal delivery.
SZA’s experience of “a type of blinding paralysis brought on by fear” caused the album to be delayed from its original release date of late 2015. Her record label took away her hard drive in the spring of 2017, and she rewrote the album till it was taken away from her.
In 2022, SZA released a deluxe edition to celebrate the album’s 5 years. The new version comes along with additional 7 tracks. The album previously featured guest appearances from Travis Scott, Kendrick Lamar, James Fauntleroy, and Isaiah Rashad. The unreleased songs include the likes of “2AM,” “Tread Carefully,” “Awkward,” “Miles,” “Percolator,” and “Jodie.”
