Swizz Beatz reacts to “CLB” diss, says Kanye West wanted a Verzuz against Drake.
For the promo run of the upcoming Fat Joe vs Ja Rule Verzuz battle, the founders’ Swizz Beatz and Timbaland sat down for a virtual interview with Angie Martinez. On the show, Angie brought up Drake recently taking shots at Swizz Beatz on the song “You Only Live Twice,” in response to Swizz calling him a “pu**y boy” last year.
“Unthinkable when I think of the way these n*ggas been acting
I never did you nothing and you play like we family, huh?
Next thing, you wanna shoot me down, it can’t be love
Not sure where you was trynna send it, it can’t be up
That day you sounded like a b*tch, you fancy, huh?,” Drizzy raps.
“People think that I started it because the way I came at it, but I never start things for no reason,” said Swizz Beatz. “It’s cool. It’s something that’s old. I actually like the song. Song’s dope. It’s cool man, Hip Hop, like a lot of people with this Hip Hop thing, it started off of that. It started off with two artists feeling some type of way, going at each other.”
He continues, “I said how I felt, he said how he felt, I guess we’re even, right? He didn’t go too crazy on the record, also. He could have said many things, that man is a clever artist. He’s a really clever artist. He could have really, really, really gave me about 40 bars. He said what he said, he got it off his chest. Blessings for everybody.”
Swizz Beatz then revealed that there was a point when Kanye West wanted to take on Drake in a a VERZUZ. “He wanted to battle Drake,” he said. “I think they communication was probably getting in a zone. But, I left that up to them.”
It’s unclear when Kanye showed interest in going up against Drake, but it appears the talks took place before their recent diss recordings. Drake leaked Kanye West’s “Life of the Party” tune earlier this month, in which he took jabs at Drizzy and alluded to that viral group conversation in which he cautioned, “You will never recover.”
