The My Turn rapper appeared to confirm the existence of the joint effort when, in March, he shared a picture of himself and Durkio on Instagram Stories with the message “Aye y’all tell @LilDurk let’s drop the tape fu*c.” A month earlier, Durkio replied to a Twitter fan and said he would talk to Lil Baby about the fan’s idea for a collaborative album. Then, he went onto Instagram Stories and posted an Instagram poll from another fan, tagging his partner.
Lil Baby and Lil Durk kick off their collaboration album “The Voice of the Heroes” with the title track, “Voice of the Heroes.” In the lead single, they rap about their backgrounds and the challenges they faced and overcame in their lives. The song was dropped just two and a half hours after being announced.
The duo recently assisted DJ Khaled on “Every Chance I Get” which appeared on his number 1 album “Khaled Khaled“.
According to MRC Data, The Voice of the Heroes opened at number one on the Billboard 200 chart in the United States, selling 150,000 album-equivalent units (including 4,000 copies in pure album sales) in its first week. This was Lil Baby’s second number-one album in the United States, and Lil Durk’s first. The album’s tracks have also received a total of 197.71 million on-demand streams.
Furthermore, 16 tracks from the album charted on the US Billboard Hot 100, with “Hats Off” (with Travis Scott) and “Voice of the Heroes” reaching numbers 16 and 21, respectively. The album slid to number four on the list in its second week, selling an additional 73,000 sales. The album ascended to number three on the list in its third week, selling 57,000 additional copies.
In an interview, Durk stated that he would love to do another album with Lil Baby. “We was vibing so crazy in the studio, we had to. We was just in that zone. He who he is, he turned up and actually can rap. He ended up rapping his a*s off, I’m changing my energy,” Durk said. “Matter of fact, we both made each other start writing, too. We got so many records that we ain’t put on there. I would do another one. Sure.”
