Kanye West Reveals Why He Threw His Mic At Donda 2 Event In Miami

Kanye West explains the reason behind throwing the microphone at the “Donda 2” event.

Last month, Kanye West again held a star-studded full house listening event for his latest album “Donda 2“, which took place in Miami. The rapper performed new and some old tracks from the original “Donda” project from 2021. However, there was one such moment during the listening experience that made the headlines.

While performing his song “Jail” with DaBaby and Marilyn Manson, the rapper threw his microphone in frustration, and the reason seems to be the problem in the mixing of tracks and audio. Now the rapper himself clears the air and reveals what really happened in Miami.

“Yeah, it wasn’t really about the sound, it was the fact that one thing I was told was that I had to write ‘performance’ on the piece,” he said in an interview with Sasha A. Berg and Esther Coco Berg. “But what I was giving you guys was performance art. I did these listening sessions when I dropped my album where I put a mask on and I give you this listening session and it’s an installation. And they basically forced me to mix Taco Bell and KFC. They basically forced to mix tequila with cognac.”

From there, Ye discussed his new focus on the Stem Player as well as his choice to tweet out contract excerpts back in 2020, tying both to the issue that prompted him to throw the mike at the event in Miami last month.

He continues, “So right when I did the song and I saw myself grabbing this mic and it wasn’t my original idea, I was like, ‘I’m gonna throw this mic. Why am I doing this?’ I’m in control of me. That’s the whole reason why I got the Stem Player. That’s the whole reason why I tweeted the contracts. To have the ability to sell out a stadium, 50,000 seats in 5 days, and then to be told by a promoter, ‘Still grab that mic, boy.’ I ain’t grabbing the mic if I don’t have to grab the mic.”
