Jack Harlow Calls Drake Greatest Rapper Of All Time

Jack Harlow and Druski sat down for GOAT Talk with Complex.

Jack Harlow recently teamed up with his good friend Druski, for a new cover story for Complex magazine. Inside Atlanta’s Marlow’s Tavern, Complex reporter Jewel Wicker met up with the two, where they ate shrimp and discussed a range of topics. The whole article may be seen on Complex. Complex has also included Harlow and Druski in the latest episode of their YouTube series, GOAT Talk, in addition to the new feature.

The duo became good friends when they first discovered each other in 2019. “I saw Diddy post something like, ‘This is the next kid. He’s the one.’ So I’m like, ‘Yo, Diddy doesn’t even post sh*t like that.’ He’ll either put himself… or himself. I checked Jack’s page out, and I was like, ‘Yo, this song [Thru the Night] is a banger,’” says Druski.

What’s crazy about it is, when he hit me, I’d been following him. I’d been a fan of his stuff for three months,” says Jack Harlow. “So I had spent the summer of 2019 showing people my phone, like, “Yo, this is the funniest dude on the internet,” as a fan. So when he followed me and messaged me and said I was dope, we got on the phone right away. And I’m like, “You think I’m dope? I think you’re hilarious.” And then, a couple months later, we got cool. It’s probably around this time two years ago.

Druski commented “I didn’t even know he was in Atlanta. I thought he was in Kentucky.” I was like, “I’m in Atlanta; come kick it.” We ended up going on tour two months later replied Harlow I asked him, “Yo, I don’t know if you have anybody hosting your tour. I would be willing to just open up, just to learn. I’ll do it for free. It doesn’t matter. I just want to learn how to do some live sh*t.” And he was just like, “Yo, I don’t have nobody. I’d love for you to do it.” And then, boom. It just took off.”

Druski, a 26-year-old comic born Drew Desbordes and raised in Gwinnett County, Georgia, a cluster of suburbs northeast of Atlanta, was doing the same in comedy, releasing videos like this one from Oct. 2, 2017, in which he exuberantly counts singles at a gas station. Druski attained timeline ubiquity as the effect of his videos expanded, as did his followers.

When he and Harlow eventually met, their chemistry was instantaneous. Druski began hosting events for the rapper in 2019, in the early days of their connection. However, when COVID-19 brought the world to a halt, the two withdrew to a realm they were both comfortable with: the internet, where they developed their relationships with followers and attracted ever-larger audiences via the diversity, honesty, and sensitivity of their writings. Their fan bases grew (Harlow has 3.6 million Instagram followers, while Druski has 3.1 million) and their momentum grew, with Harlow doing additional work with New Balance and Druski moving on to appear in a Revolt and Adidas series.

I grew up in a melting pot, too. I was going to mention exactly what he said. There’s something about people that grow up with a foot in both worlds. They connect with each other. There’s some people that have that duality, because that’s what makes him such a great comedian. He sees perspective. People look at me as a white boy that sings hip-hop, yet they find me authentic. If I didn’t go to public school growing up, I’d never be a good artist. I really don’t think I’d be as good a rapper. I wouldn’t be able to exist in hip-hop.

After their detailed interview, Jack Harlow and Druski also sat down for a new episode of Complex’s GOAT Talk, where the two discusses GOAT liquor, Chains in hip-hop, sneakers, vacation spots, and more. During the session, there was also a question about the greatest rapper of all time, to which “What’s Poppin” hitmaker names the Toronto rap star Drake. “It’s Drizzy Baby,” he says. Jack Harlow also named his favorite album, which is Kanye West’s second studio album “Late Registration,” which was dropped in 2005. Druski also named “GOAT” album, which is Lil Wayne’s “The Carter III”.

At his Crème de la Crème concert in Toronto, Harlow seized the opportunity to acknowledge Drake’s presence and pay tribute to his idol. “Tonight was a imagination come true to me for more than one reason. First off, you sold this b**ch out,” he told the Toronto crowd. “Second, I was halfway through my performance and I seen my idol looking at me, man. Toronto, make some noise for the G.O.A.T. one time!”
