J. Cole Reveals His Mount Rushmore of Rap on The Off-Season Tour

J. Cole crowns himself on “Mount Rushmore of Rap”.

J. Cole is currently on “The Off-Season” tour in support of his latest album, as he is performing around America with supporting artists 21 Savage and Morray. The Dreamville boss’ latest stop was at Dallas, where he performed his old and new hits at the American Airlines Arena on October 11.

I wanted to be able to come to this level of place and give y’all the f**king bars, the real ill bars,” Jermaine said. “’Cause I’ve been coming to Dallas for a really long time and I know people really appreciate the bars, the art of putting these fucking words together. I gotta step on this stage in front of thousands of people and still be able to be true to who I am and what I love.

During the performance of his song called “100. mil”, J. Cole decided to give his “Mount Rushmore of Rap” list through a picture at the stage, which showed himself having all four spots. All four J. Cole pictures on Mount Rushmore were from his different album eras. In the music, Mount Rushmore represents the 4 top-tier artists of a particular genre. The song also featured lyrics about the same thing. “I’m on that Mount Rushmore, you ni**as can’t front no more, bi*ch, I’ma reign until FEMA show up,” raps Cole. Mount Rushmore originally refers to the sculpture of US Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt.

J. Cole published the music video for “Heaven’s EP” as a YouTube exclusive three days before departing on The Off-Season tour. Cole reflects about his contemporaries, common comparisons, self-doubts, and general mentality as an “aging” rapper, using the same rhythm as Drake’s “Pipe Down,” which had dropped a few weeks prior.

J Cole recently mentioned in his “Heavens EP” song that people consider him third after Drake and Kendrick Lamar. When Cole kicked off his tour last month in Miami, he brought out Future and Drake, who performed their number 1 single “Way 2 Sexy”. At the show, Drizzy also showed some love to Cole as he called him one of the greatest to touch the mic.

Whether there’s one topic that has rap fans buzzing, it’s who should be included in the Mount Rushmore of Hip Hop.

Last year, a “Big Four” Atlanta rappers lineup of Jeezy, Future, Lil Baby, and Rich Homie Quan enraged fans of Outkast, T.I., Gucci Mane, and 2 Chainz, while Snoop Dogg struggled to narrow down his “Mount Eastmore” selections. RapCaviar sought to settle the dispute over the greatest rappers of the 2010s once and for all in June, when they named Drake, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, and Nicki Minaj the four finest MCs of the decade.
