Ice Cubes give flowers in praise of Lil Wayne.
When you call Gangsta rapper, Ice Cube’s name pops up without any hesitation. Even Ice Cube, who is arguably one of the best rappers of all time, occasionally gives other deserving artists flowers to show his admiration.
Cube recently spoke with the On The Guest List podcasts and discussed Lil Wayne, calling his metaphors “otherworldly.”
“It’s hard to beat Lil Wayne,” Cube said. “His metaphors are otherworldly. As far as lyrics and can make hits, you know. Has been copied all these years and nothing but clones of Lil Wayne at the end of the day. So I just think, besides myself. I’ve done so much for the culture, but uh, yeah, yeah he’s dope.”
Artists sometimes vent on social media about how no one shares or promotes their releases, the beef and some even want flowers in return for their musical talents. Lil Wayne is one individual who never objects to compliments, whether they come from other rappers or the general public. Other artists are undoubtedly quick to recognise Weezy’s skills when it comes to rapping, particularly Ice Cube who is well-versed in the business.
It’s encouraging to hear one of hip-hop’s pioneers praise another great MC, particularly one from other coasts.
Cube has recently been very busy & working tirelessly. Last month saw the premiere of ‘BAD MFS’, the debut studio album from Snoop Dogg, Too $hort, and E-40’s outfit Mount Westmore. However, the project is currently only accessible through blockchain in the metaverse and not streaming services.
“You know what it is,” Ice Cube said in a promo video. “Mount Westmore — you got the four pillars of West Coast Hip Hop. We are down with Gala Music. We are coming out with that Mount Westmore ‘BAD MFs’ album. There is going to be new music, new experiences, shows, everything that the Westmore got, baby, you gonna get it.”
One thing the group members all discovered while they worked on the record, according to Too $hort, was how renowned they were in the industry. “I’m going to tell you one thing, one beautiful thing about the process is that early on we all acknowledge that in the studio, we are supreme alphas,” he said. “We’ve always been that way, but on this project, we gave each other the authority to criticize, critique, veto, make suggestions, and just everything is like hands-down, I trust what you saying. It literally has been said, ‘Bro, that verse you spit yesterday was wack,’ and then bro go back and redo that verse, and like, ‘You came with it this time.’ It’s that kind of hold me up kind of situation.”
