Fat Joe again talks about having a chance to sign Eminem 6 times.
Fat Joe recently sat down with Big Boy for an interview on his show, and the rapper was asked about the well-known story of him passing on Eminem’s demos 6 times. Fat Joe recalls when he got to know about it from Eminem himself during a dinner.
“Man I got so many regrets,“The biggest is that Eminem gave me so many demos – six different times he approached me and I didn’t sign him. Shame on me.” “I’m so blessed to have a career. You’ve got to understand this: there are 10 million people trying to rap and only one makes it, and the fact that even when someone makes it, most of the time, 99 percent, they are a one-hit wonder.”
“I was just immature, I was crazy, I keep tryna tell y’all,” he said. “I was wild for the night, and for the day. So I was just in these places, Revolt summit, people would just give me their demos. So I was just tryna get myself in the game and Eminem apparently gave me his demo. So years later, we had dinner, me, Em and B-Real from Cypress Hill. Em was like, yo Joe Imma tell you something, I was like what, he was like I gave you my demo like 6 times. I was like nooooo… Jesus christ.”
He continues, “I remember Eminem from a performance with this group Outsidez, they had a very dope thing and it’s where I met Biggie too. It was like Lyricists lounge in New York. So Eminem, skinny white boy, me and [Big] Pun, closed the lyricists lounge. We headlined and Em performed with some Outsidez. They were all black kids with dreadlocks, and Em was so skinny, he was going so crazy and they were holding him by his pants, or he was gonna fall off the stage. And we knew that he was crazy. It was too late, it wasn’t demo time, he was on, was just about to go with Dr. Dre.”

Joe also recalls the story of standing in line to buy Eminem’s album. “I always tell the story of when his first major studio album [The Slim Shady LP] came out, it was Grammy week,” he said. “So you see that classic picture of me and Pun in suits looking like cartoon characters. So we stood the night before his album came out, we stood in a long line at tower records to get Eminem’s album. The first album, we bumped that all night.”
Then he was asked if Eminem would become what he is today, had he signed to him. “I mean we make great music, of course not you know that the legendary Dr. Dre, NWA all that, they gave him the whole different thing. Dre beats were crazy but he would’ve been hot with us too. We made Big Pun, we made Remy Ma, we made DJ Khaled, the list just goes on. We could’ve made him a big star, it probably would’ve been a different kind of star.”
The Terror Squad founder also met with Florida’s WEDR 99.1 FM Miami for their 99 Jamz Live event, and in an interview segment that was posted to the station’s Instagram account on Monday (Oct. 21), he discussed a period of time when he turned down many opportunities to listen to Eminem. There are six of them, to be exact. “What happened was Eminem out here in Miami, he gave me his demo like six different times.” Joe said. “And everywhere I went there was this little White boy and he kept giving me his demo he was like ‘yo listen to my music, I am telling you, I am nice, I’m nice, I’m nice.’ And I never really, I didn’t do it, and now he is the biggest guy in the universe. ”
