Eminem’s end-of-year statistics show that there was a rare day in 2020 when he had fewer than 10 million streams. We also know that his most recent album “Music To Be Murdered By,” which has had 1.37 billion Spotify listens since its release, accounted for over a quarter of his streams this year.
Also, Eminem is rejoicing in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that doesn’t come along very often: On Spotify, his Oscar-Winning smash hit “Lose Yourself” from 2002 has received 1 billion plays.
On Sunday night, Eminem’s apparently out-of-nowhere performance of his iconic smash “Lose Yourself” at the Oscars finished off a montage of memorable songs from renowned movies. “Lose Yourself” was written for Eminem’s autobiographical movie 8 Mile and won the Best Original Song Oscar in 2003. However, Eminem, who had also skipped the Grammys that year, did not attend the event. Instead, presenter Barbra Streisand collected his prize, which was picked up by his co-writer Luis Resto.
The Oscar-winning “8 Mile” theme, which was also Em’s first No. 1 song on Billboard’s Hot 100 list (it topped the chart for 12 weeks in 2002 and 2003), has had 1.076 billion plays on the streaming site.
On Wednesday (Feb. 24), the Rap God marked the occasion by posting a montage video of the song’s award-winning run since its release on Oct. 28, 2002.
