Drake Becomes First Rapper To Surpass 1 Billion Streams On Spotify In 2022

Drake named 1st rapper to hit 1 Billion on Spotify this year.

The Toronto Rap Star continues his monumental run on streaming platforms as he now becomes the first Hip-Hop act to hit the 1 Billion mark on Spotify in 2022. The rapper achieved this accolade in just one and a half months of this year. The rapper now joins the likes of The Weeknd, Bad Bunny, Taylor Swift, BTS and Justin Bieber as the only artist to surpass 1 billion on Spotify this year.

Drizzy’s recent studio album “Certified Lover Boy” played a major role in achieving this milestone on Spotify. The album recently surpassed 2 Billion streams on the platform. He is also the first artist in history to have 1 project with over 2 Billion streams on Spotify.

Certified Lover Boy, his most recent full-length album, is the only rap album eligible for double platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 2021. It was the first rap album of 2021 to spend five weeks at No. 1, sold over 600,000 sales in its first week, and smashed Apple Music and Spotify’s records for the most first-day streaming.

Drake earned a double-platinum status for his latest project which had the highest first-week sales for a rap album in 2021. Recently, it was also revealed that the “God’s Plan” rapper was the #1 most streaming artist in the US in 2021. Champagne Papi earned 8.6 billion on-demand streams and 1 out of every 131 streams was his song.
