Cordae reveals his idols while growing up, meaning behind the new album and more.
Cordae is all set to drop his highly anticipated second studio album “From A Bird’s Eye View” this week, and he continues his promo run as he made a visit to The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. Before performing his songs “Sinister / Chronicles”, the North Carolina rapper sat down for a short interview with Jimmy Fallon.
“People knew, people predicted that you’re gonna be this successful,” said Fallon while showing Cordae’s yearbook photo, with a quote ‘most likely to be famous’ written over it. “How did they predict this, what were you like?” asks Jimmy. “You know, stars are born, man,” says Cordae. “But I used to always drop mixtapes when I was younger. I dropped my first mixtape when I was 15 years old. I used to always perform at school talent shows. I was a rapper, and it’s not cool being an artist before you’re on Jimmy Fallon’s couch.”
Then the host asked who did he wanted to be like, and who were his idols. “Kanye West was a big idol of mine. Kendrick Lamar, Nas, Jay-Z, you might have heard of em,” everyone laughs.
Cordae then reveals the idea behind his new album’s titled, “It means to see things from outside of yourself. You know as human beings we tend to all have like, main character syndrome. But it’s to see things from a more zoomed out lens.”
The new album will drop this week on 14th January and will feature guest appearances from Eminem, Lil Wayne, Lil Durk, Nas, H.E.R., Freddie Gibbs and more.
