Cordae talks about the new album and more on Ebro in the Morning.
Cordae continues the promo run for his new album “From A Bird’s Eye View” as he made a visit to Hot 97 for an interview on the Ebro in the Morning show. On the show, he discussed various topics, including relationships with the likes of Eminem, Dr. Dre, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Stevie Wonder and more.
“That was three years ago,” Cordae recalls about meeting Dr. Dre. “Shout out to big bro. I connected with Dre through Anderson .Paak. I was in the studio with Anderson. Paak and Dr. Dre just walked in and joined. Anderson .Paak and Dre are always locked in the studio. I was just talking and Dre was like ‘man I wanna hear how your music sounds like cause you look like crazy ni**a.’ And i think a week or two later, he called me. He was like ‘yo, pull up to the studio.’ I think somebody showed him my first LA Leakers freestyle and he was basically like ‘yo I rock with that LA Leakers freestyle, pull up in the studio, I wanna see what type of music you can make.’ I pulled up on them and we cooked. It was literally my 21st birthday and I had something completely different planned to do that day but I cancelled that to pull up on big bro.”
Cordae played a fun game where he described each individual on the record and how he trusts Dave Chappelle and Colin Kaepernick to get their hands on it before it’s published. Cordae also recounted an awkward experience before a performance, which made for an amusing time in the chat.
“He called me and we talked for like an hour and a half,” he details about Eminem Collab. “It was probably mid pandemic, we were just chopping about life, hip-hop, rap, everything for like literally two hours. And he was like ‘yo we gotta get some work in and get some music done’ and I sent them…And you know what? that was like June 2020 and I didn’t even send him a song till like April 2021, I’m wild low-key. It’s been a year since we talked. I was like ‘let me just get this verse out bro’ and then I sent them ‘Parables’ and boom that’s how it came about.”
The album was predicted to sell 21,000 copies, which is fewer than the 25,000 units that his first album, The Lost Boy, sold to debut at No. 13 on the charts.
However, the estimate was larger than reality, with Cordae’s official album sales coming in at 20,000 copies. From A Bird’s Eye View opened on the Billboard 200 at No. 18, which is probably lower than what Cordae and his crew had anticipated.
