Future earned the best-selling rap album of 2022 in the US.
The year-end numbers of best-selling albums of 2022 are out now, and Future topped the list in the hip-hop genre. According to HitsDailyDouble, Future’s ninth studio album “I Never Liked You” moved 1.5 million equivalent album units in the US in 2022, which is the most by any rap album.
The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) awarded the album platinum certification for cumulative sales and album-equivalent units of more than 1,000,000 in the US.
The album “I Never Liked You” achieved great success upon its release, debuting at the top of the US Billboard 200 chart. It garnered a total of 222,000 album-equivalent units in its first week, with 6,000 of those being pure album sales. This impressive feat demonstrates the popularity and widespread appeal of the album.
The album topped the charts upon its release in the first week as it sold 227,000 units in the United States. The project featured appearances from Kanye West, Gunna, Young Thug, Drake, Tems, Kodak Black and more.
The second best-selling rap album was Lil Durk’s “7220“, followed by Drake’s “Certified Lover Boy”, which was released in 2021. Doja Cat also dominated with her 2021 album “Planet Her” as it sold 1.2m units in 2022 to grab the fourth spot.
Kendrick Lamar’s return album “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers” moved 1.2 million units in 2022, to make it the sixth best-selling hip-hop project. K. Dot’s second studio album “Good Kid Maad City” which was released a decade ago in 2012, was the ninth best-selling rap project in 2022 with 913k sales.
For the project, Kendrick Lamar won the Best Rap Album trophy at the 65th annual Grammy Awards. The rapper earned additional two Grammies for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance.
Overall, Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny’s record-breaking effort “Un Verano Sin Ti” was the biggest album of 2022 with 3.4 million in total activity. The second on the list is Taylor Swift’s “Midnights” album, which accumulated more than 3.3m in activity in 2022.
