Rappers spent 2021 in a state of true contemplation, which makes it reasonable considering how many reminders of how valuable life is. Hip-hop in 2021 sounded genuine and frantic; Drake and Kanye even mended minor squabbles at the end, possibly understanding there’s too much at risk. The issues of the actual world are as relevant as ever, and it is in this context that rap music shines the brightest.
Wallen’s second full-length studio album, Dangerous: The Double Album, was released on January 8, 2021. It ends the year with 3.226 million equivalent album units sold in the United States. The majority of that total was generated by streaming activity of the set’s lengthy 30-song tracklist. Dangerous is the first country album to be named MRC Data’s year-end #1 album since Taylor Swift’s Fearless in 2009.
The third artist on the list is the Toronto rap star Drake, whose “Certified Lover Boy” moved 1,850,000 copies this year. Cole, Juice WRLD, Kanye West, Lil Durk and more.

Planet Her, which debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 after selling 109,000 album-equivalent units, became Doja Cat’s highest-charting album. It also topped the Billboard Top R&B Albums chart.
With 4 million units sold, Masked Wolf’s “Astronaut In The Ocean” was the best-selling song in the Hip Hop/Rap genre. It was also the only song in the genre to do so.
The most surprising name in the Top 50 list is Eminem, whose “Curtain Call: The Hits” album grabbed the number 49 spot. While the other albums were released this year, other either 2020, Eminem’s greatest hits project was dropped way back in 2005. The album moved around 673,000 copies this year.
