Barack & Michelle Obama Pens Condolence Letter To Biz Markie's Widow

Barack & Michelle Obama sends condolences to Biz Markie’s widow Tara Hall.

Last month, the legendary Marcel Theo Hall, better known as his stage name Biz Markie, passed away at the age of 57 after severe complications from Type 2 diabetes. At his burial this past weekend, celebrities like Roxanne Shante and Al Sharpton paid their condolences to the hip hop legend, while others like Fat Joe, Ice T, Montell Jordan, Busta Rhymes, and LL Cool J also paid their respects.

Last December, it was reported that Markie was staying in a rehabilitation facility as a result of a stroke he had suffered after going into a diabetic coma. Barack Obama, who’s a big fan of hip-hop music, decided to pay his condolences as he sent a letter to Biz Markie’s widow Tara Hall. The letter which is signed by both Barack & Michelle Obama appreciates Biz Markie for his early support in the 2008 elections.

The letter which is shared with TMZ reads as:

Dear Tara,
We wanted to extend our heartfelt condolences to you as you reflect on Biz Markie’s life.

We didn’t know Biz Markie as long or as well as you and your loved ones did. But like others who admired him, he holds a special place in our heart as one of rap’s most innovative stylists and as a great man.

Biz Markie brightened every room he was in, and we will always appreciate him for his early support in 2008, bringing people together to ‘Party With a Purpose’ and get out the vote. His legacy in hip hop will span generations just as it has for nearly four decades.

We hope you take comfort in all the fond memories you have with him. Please know that we are holding you, Averi, and your entire family in our though and prayers.

According to TMZ, Hall is creating the Biz Markie’s Just A Friend Charity Fund in honour of Biz, which will assist groups including DC’s Bread For The City and Soles4Souls, which Biz previously supported.
