Will Smith was asked to leave Oscars 2022 after slapping Chris Rock but he refused.
Celebrities and fans are still trying to process what happened at this year’s 94th annual Academy Awards. The legendary Will Smith shocked the world as he slapped the comedian Chris Rock on Oscar’s stage after a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith. “Keep my wife’s name out of your f**king mouth,” he shouted at Rock.

Now reports are coming in that the actor was asked to leave the event after the shocking incident, but he refused. “Things unfolded in a way we could not have anticipated,” the Academy said in a statement. “While we would like to clarify that Mr. Smith was asked to leave the ceremony and refused, we also recognize we could have handled the situation differently.”
The statement continues, “The Board of Governors today initiated disciplinary proceedings against Mr. Will Smith for violations of the Academy’s Standards of Conduct, including inappropriate physical contact, abusive or threatening behavior, and compromising the integrity of the Academy. Mr. Smith is being provided at least 15 days’ notice of a vote regarding his violations and sanctions, and the opportunity to be heard beforehand by means of a written response. At the next board meeting on April 18, the Academy may take any disciplinary action, which may include suspension, expulsion, or other sanctions permitted by the Bylaws and Standards of Conduct.”

The 57-year-old Stand-up comedian addressed the incident for the first since the Oscars night, as he performed in front of a sold-out show in Boston. “How was your weekend?” he asked the crowd. “I’m still kind of processing what happened.” He then revealed that he will talk about the situation later in full depth. “It’ll be serious, it’ll be funny, but I’d love to — I’m going to tell some jokes.”

Just the other day, the “King Richard” actor issued a public apology to both Chris Rock and the Academy. “Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive,” he wrote on his Social Media. “My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally. I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”
He continues, “I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family. I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us. I am a work in progress.”
