50 Cent comes in defence of Eminem after Melle Mel remarks.
Melle Mel made headlines for his new interview on The Art Of Dialogue. The Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five icon talked about the recently released Billboard & Vibe’s Top 50 greatest rappers list and discussed Eminem’s number 5 rank, which he thinks is because he’s white.
“Obviously he’s a capable rapper. If you was talking about sales, he’s sold more than everybody. If you were talking about rhyme style, okay he got a rhyme style. But he’s white. He’s white,” he says. “So now if Eminem was another ni**a like all the rest of us, would he be Top 5 on that list when a ni**a that could rhyme just as good as him is 35? That had records and all that? He’s 35. He’s white.”
He continued, “And anybody could be as mad… They could feel how they wanna feel. If you don’t think that race plays a part in the equation of how great he is — I heard one of the dudes that’s down with him, Royce Da 6’9″ [Royce Da 5’9″] or one of those – I heard he’s just as good as Eminem. Why he ain’t as big as Eminem? Because he’s Black. Ain’t none of that sh*t hard to figure out. Eminem gets a top spot because he’s white.”
Following his statement, Eminem’s good friend and longtime collaborator 50 Cent responded to Melle Mel in a since-deleted IG post. “There was more money selling dope than being in Hip Hop when Melly Mel was popping, the culture has grown so much. I am not sure if it would be what it is today with out artist like Eminem. Sh*t I am not sure I would be who I am with out him but you know it is competitive so ni**as gonna hate. LOL f**k outta here ! We s**ker free.”
Page Kennedy also responded to Melle Mel and called him a hater. “Melle Mel sound like a hater saying Eminem only top 5 cause he white. Ni**a you know how many white rappers there have been. Have any of them ever been in top anything? No stfu. If Melle was white do he think he would be in the top? Top-less is about it.”

In a recent a interview 50 Cent expressed his disagreement with Jamal Crawford’s opinion that Jay-Z had a greater impact on the genre than Eminem. In fact, 50 Cent believes that Eminem has had a bigger impact on the genre than Jay-Z “That’s why my five, the dominance outweighs the number,” the former NBA player remarked to Shaq. “Like, JAY-Z’s effect on Hip Hop is bigger than any album sales that Eminem will have, you see what I’m saying? That’s just how it goes.”
