Treach Speaks on Eminem's Zeus Lyrics About Longevity in Hip-Hop

Sway Calloway interviews the legendary Treach.

The legendary Treach, best known as the lead rapper of the hip-hop group ‘Naughty by Nature‘, recently did an interview session with Sway In The Morning, where he talks about his new drama Family Business, how Tupac helped him get into acting, and much more.

On the show, the host also asked him about the longevity in Hip-Hop, referencing recent Eminem lyrics on ‘Zeus‘. “I thought of Eminem did this song ‘Zeus’, that brought up a lot of attention and we’re talking about being smart with your money and you are a figment. Who you are is longevity, manifested.” says Sway. “You guys have found ways to stay in this, follow your passion, and love what you’re doing. But we’re starting to see a lot of folks are starting to experience the backlash you get after so much success and I read these lyrics that Eminem was saying and he was directing them to Drake and others.

Sway Reads:
I’ve had a great view to see the game through
And, Drake, they’re gonna turn on you one day too
And the more you win, the sooner they do
They’ll be calling you a trash bin
Sayin’ that your new one isn’t better than your last and
Even if it is, once they start to turn their backs
They ain’t never comin’ back in
They did it to Chance
Next, they’ll be mentionin’ Future in the past tense
Or sayin’ “Adiós” to Migos.

Can you relate to that, did you see that happen at all with ‘Naughty by Nature’, not so much backlash but then people turn their backs, or did y’all go through that?” asks Sway Calloway.

Of Course, you know what the thing is, A lot of artists didn’t understand that, We didn’t understand,” says Treach. “When you come out there and you hit and you think like this is forever. Like I’m gonna keep making these records, I’m gonna keep getting these radio plays, I’m gonna keep shooting these videos, keep boom boom boom. One thing that’s definite in the game that we’ve seen, If you on your dean is torment until the pandemic comes. You got to realize, Hip-Hop is basically, you’re looking at a decade if you’re blessed. A decade before you considered old school and the new doors opening up for the younger artists coming out. Because Hip-Hop has always been a new artist game.

Eminem just dropped a surprise album called Music To Be Murdered By – Side B. MTBMB Side B is largely a continuation of his album of the same name from the first months of 2020. Eminem’s tracks on the album discuss mass violence in both literal and symbolic terms. The rapper announced the album’s release via a tweet, which can be viewed below. Em explained why he opted to incorporate a few lines to publicly apologise to Rihanna for an inappropriate phrase that alluded to her relationship with Chris Brown.

On the same Zeus, Eminem spit bars dissing Snoop Dogg. Snoop Dogg told the Breakfast Club six months ago that he could live without Eminem’s music. Despite Snoop’s references to Em as a “brother” and “teammate,” Em was definitely concerned enough to name Snoop on wax. In an interview with Shade45 earlier this week, he detailed why he dissed Snoop.

He continues, “So A lot of artists come in here like Yo, I’m great I’m here I’m doing this I’m hot I keep dropping the hotness and everything else and thinking if they do that and stay consistent. You have to stay so consistent, whereas certain artists will hold or certain artists could come out at any time and drop some new heat because they can finance their own war. They already got the connection everything there. Once you win the game after five years in Hip-Hop, If you’re on the label, you’re soon to be, in football terms, traded or dropped. Because they looking for new players. And the air in Hip-Hop is more catered for the younger generations all the time so when they come up in here and then they did, the radio not playing there no more, the label’s not answering the calls and then the tour, the budget for the tours and for what they asked and it was asking when they were hot not there no more and they understand it, that’s when they run into a brick wall. But for us, we had 10 boots and we knew how to climb walls. We were standing on 40-50 homies shoulders and we kept bringing other people over with us. In the game, everybody is me me me me and not about the team.
