Nicki Minaj shares her thought on new female rappers.
Nicki Minaj recently assisted Jesy Nelson, the former member of UK’s girl group Little Mix, for her first solo single called “Boyz“. The track samples Diddy’s 2001 track “Bad Boy 4 Life”, and is released along with the music video. The duo decided to do an Instagram live, to have a Q&A with the fans for the new song, as well as other random questions. During the session, Nicki Minaj also talked about the current generation of female rappers who can’t take criticism.
“Like the new females, it’s almost like they don’t want to be critiqued ever,” she said. “It’s like everyone is just supposed to praise you 24/7. Why would you even want that? Let me tell you what happens when that happens. What happens is when you put out an album, the sales won’t translate because people have been lying to you, and they haven’t told you they don’t like a song, or they don’t like this, or they don’t like that.”
Nicki continued, “Then when you put an album out and you thinking everybody love you. I’ve seen it recently happen. You know they put an album out, and it doesn’t sell what they want it to sell. Well, that’s because a lot of people are lying to you for whatever reason. You should want people to be honest with you.”
While the Grammy-nominated rapper didn’t mention any current female rappers, fans started to think he could be referencing Megan Thee Stallion or Doja Cat, as their latest album only sold around 100k in the first week. Megan Thee Stallion and Doja Cat’s latest albums, “Good News” and “Planet Her” both debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200.
Nicki Minaj understands what it takes to be a successful rapper. She is the only female rapper to sell over 100 million units in the United States and the only woman in history to have 100 Billboard Hot 100 singles, among other accomplishments. Even though Nicki will be remembered as one of the greatest when all is said and done, she continues to be chastised for her personal life. Young Money’s First Lady has recently attracted the wrath of critics and fans due to her position on the COVID-19 vaccination.
