Melle Mel shares thoughts on 2Pac and DMX’s acting careers.
Melle Mel had been in the trends for his recent statements on The Art of Dialogue podcast, and now another part of the interview is released, where the legendary Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five rapper commented on Tupac and DMX’s acting and rap career.
“I thought 2Pac was a better actor than he was a rapper. I thought he was a hell of an actor — than a rapper,” he said. “I thought DMX was a better actor than he was a rapper — because it’s that persona and when you take a guy like that and you put them in front of a camera.”
“I mean DMX he was a pretty good actor. He could have just stayed within himself and been more dedicated to what he was doing,” he added.
He continued, “Method Man he’s a good actor. Ludacris a good actor. Because it’s almost the same thing. If you got a persona it’s almost like you acting anyway,” he added, explaining that a stage persona or personality is much like a character an actor adopts in performance.” “So, when you put that same guy in front of the camera, there you go,” he added. “Mos Def, I thought he was a hell of an actor.”
Just recently, Melle Mel responded to racist accusations after his remarks on Eminem. “Everybody’s just so angry that I would say that,” said Melle Mel. “I’ve even been branded a racist, which is neither here nor there because that’s almost impossible. I’ve been playing for all different kinds of people all my life. That is so far off-kilt that I don’t understand. But Eminem made a record, I guess the album was ‘White America’… where he said he wouldn’t be as popular if he wasn’t white.”
After receiving criticism for his remarks, including a comment from 50 Cent who told Melle Mel to “get the f**k outta here,” Slim Shady continued to stand by his position, asserting that he has a duty to preserve the integrity of the genre. Fat Joe and Papoose also defended Eminem in light of the backlash.
