J. Cole is jealous of people who live normal life.
J. Cole sat down with Golden State Warriors GM Bob Myers for a rare interview as part of the latest instalment of his Lead By Example Podcast. During the long conversation, the Dreamville boss discussed being envious of people who lacks strong desire and lives normal life.
“I’m envious of people who don’t have strong desire or strong vision and don’t have something,” he said. “They have a peaceful life and an enjoyable life and it’s like, ‘I go to work, I like my job, I like my salary, I’m not stupid rich but I love my family. I come home — life is amazing.’ And they live their life like that and I think that is just as valid.”
He continued, “We live in a society and a culture that pushes, like a hustle culture to work hard, like boom, boom, boom. I think people could feel guilty and insufficient for not having some great dream to dream. I’m like, ‘No, it’s a blessing to be satisfied, to be at peace, to be content with life.’”
The rapper also talked about smoking cigarettes at the age of 6, the 2014 Forest Hills Drive album, basketball dreams and more.
J. Cole is now getting ready for this year’s Dreamville Fest, which will take place on April 1st and 2nd, with star appearances from Drake, Usher, Lil Durk and more.
During the 45-minute conversation, J. Cole discussed a wide range of subjects, his aspirations to become a basketball player, and his key principles for success, among other topics. Although he is not currently planning to retire from music entirely, the artist, who hails from North Carolina, has suggested that the idea of retirement has crossed his mind.
