Ice-T reveals the advice he once gave to Eminem about being humble.
In the latest episode of Ice-T’s Daily Game podcast, the legendary rapper talked about being good at rap and be humble at the same, by giving an example of Eminem, to whom he gave advice that he still follows.
“People think that you can’t be fly and be humble at the same time. I’ve always said that in Rap we like to brag a lot. We like to say I’m this, I’m that. But in real life, all these compliments can’t come from you. The person that says I’m this I’m that, they’re usually saying it cause nobody else is saying it. The greatest compliments come from people behind your back. When you are not in the room and they say ‘yo Ice is cool guy, Ice is that, Ice is this.’ They will also say the bullsh*t about you. What people say to your face is less important than what they say behind your back.
I remember when I met Eminem. I asked him what he wanted out of the game. And he said, all I wanna do is be around like you and Dre and my comment with him was ‘be a beast on the mic and be humble in real life’ and I think he followed that advice. Because, if you can rap like him, you don’t need to tell people that you are great rapper. You show it and you prove it. So you could be dope but in real life you don’t have to be walking around telling people who you are, that’s corny. Let them say it.”

In a couple of years old interview, Ice-T revealed his reaction to hearing Eminem for the first time. “Well people always want you to hear their music and stuff like that but honestly it’s very very hard to get my attention as far as music,” says Ice-T. “I am very into unique stuff and unfortunately most people are just replicating repeating something they heard. It’s nothing new, I want to get my mind blown. I remember when I first heard Eminem, somebody gave to me a tape. And I’m like ‘This crazy white boy is singing about putting his girl in a trunk, what the f**k is this.’ And the fact that he could really rap and that he was a white kid, that was dope. Now there’s a lot of white kids rapping so now it’s like okay well you kind of sound like Eminem, yeah but he was like one of the early ones. Eminem’s style was different and it was unique and he turned out to be a star.”
