Fat Joe and Papoose give opinion on Melle Mel’s comments about Eminem.
Melle Mel has been in the headlines for his recent comments about Eminem, and now more rap artist comes forward with their opinions about the controversial remarks. During the recent visit to The Art of Dialogue podcast, the Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five icon discussed Eminem’s place on the list and states that he’s only at number 5 because he’s white.
Now during a recent live session on Instagram, Fat Joe and Papoose defend Eminem while showing respect for Melle Mel. “I disagree with that because even though Eminem is Caucasian, you cannot front on his skillset, man. You can’t deny that skillset,” Papoose said. “No way,” responds Fat Joe. “As much as I love and worship Melle Mel, I think he’s wrong with this one,” Joe added.
“Listen, I love Melle Mel. He’s the originator of his style. He’s amazing, lyrically. I still listen to ‘The Message.’ And I know Melle Mel,” Papoose added. “I look up to him, man. He’s a legend. I could go on and on about the respect that I have for him.” “He’s probably my icon. He’s one of my Top 10,” responds Joe.
“Lyrically, dudes are still not touching [Melle Mel]. But honestly, that skillset that that boy Slim Shady got, you can’t — nah, man,” Papoose said.
During the recent interview, Melle Mel said: “Obviously he’s a capable rapper. If you was talking about sales, he’s sold more than everybody. If you were talking about rhyme style, okay he got a rhyme style. But he’s white. He’s white. So now if Eminem was another ni**a like all the rest of us, would he be Top 5 on that list when a ni**a that could rhyme just as good as him is 35? That had records and all that? He’s 35. He’s white.”
50 Cent Responds To Melle Mel Saying Eminem Is Top 5 Because He’s White
He continued, “And anybody could be as mad… They could feel how they wanna feel. If you don’t think that race plays a part in the equation of how great he is — I heard one of the dudes that’s down with him, Royce Da 6’9″ [Royce Da 5’9″] or one of those – I heard he’s just as good as Eminem. Why he ain’t as big as Eminem? Because he’s Black. Ain’t none of that sh*t hard to figure out. Eminem gets a top spot because he’s white.”
Not only Fat Joe and Papoose have reacted to Melle Mel’s controversial comments, but also 50 Cent, a close friend of Eminem, responded less diplomatically on Instagram last weekend, telling the Hip Hop legend to “get the f**k outta here.” “There was more money selling dope than being in Hip Hop when Melly [sic] Mel was popping, the culture has grown so much,” 50 wrote in a since-deleted post. “I am not sure if it would be what it is today with out artist like Eminem.”
