Ed Sheeran Reveals His Favorite Rap Albums; Names Eminem, 50 Cent & Dr. Dre's Projects

Ed Sheeran shares his favourite rap albums, all from Dr. Dre 2001 era.

Ed Sheeran recently made an appearance on GOAT Talk for a conversation alongside actor Barry Keoghan. During the episode, they talked about their favorite rap albums, for which Ed Sheeran listed all from the Aftermath/Shady/G-Unit era.

Ed Sheeran said: “It’s that whole world. You have Get Rich or Die Tryin’, Documentary – Game or The Marshall Mathers LP. Those three, I could put them on in any scenario. 2001 – Dr. Dre is another one.”

Actor Keoghan also picked 50 Cent’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’, to which Sheeran said: “I was listening to that weirdly with my dad the other day. We were in Italy. I was topless with a beer in my hand, explaining to him how great ‘If I Can’t’ was because it’s not a full eight bar chorus.”

Sheeran is a huge Eminem fan, and he previously revealed how Detroit rapper’s music helped him with his stuttering problem. “When I was 9, my uncle bought me ‘The Marshall Mathers LP’, and he [My uncle] just said to my dad, ‘This guy is the next Bob Dylan. You gotta let him listen,’” he recalled. “And by learning that record – and rapping it back to back to back to back – it cured my stutter. And I stopped talking like that.”

“Years later, I’ve made songs with Eminem now we’ve got to know each other quite well. And he asked to play Stan with him at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I remember getting the call to do it and I was shooting 14 music videos back to back. It was my day off, and I was like I can’t say no, So I got on a plane straight after one music video, flew there, performed, and flew back that night, it was really worth it.”

He continued: “I think it’s different with Eminem because he is quite reclusive, doesn’t see or meet that many people. I’ve known him now [for] six years and we’ve done three songs together, I’ve played with him twice onstage. He’s another person I really relate to, as he lives in his hometown still and has his eco-system around him.”

In a previous interview, Sheeran revealed that in his first meeting with Eminem, they spoke about Marvel and Avengers for 4 hours. “Yeah. It was in Detroit, and I was playing a gig in Detroit,” says Ed Sheeran. “And yeah, I arrived, and Em’s got loads of games consoles there. He loves games. I actually bought him a Nintendo 64 with GoldenEye on it as a gift. Yeah. I just stepped in there. Actually, the first time we met, we didn’t make music. I hung out there for about four hours, and we just spoke Marvel and Avengers for about four hours. And then the next time I went back, we made a tune. The first tune we made, I was in Mexico, and his producer flew to Mexico, and I did the hook there and stuff.”
