Charlamagne Tha God Explains Why Gen Z's Attempt To Cancel Eminem Will Never Work

Charlamagne Tha God and Andrew Schulz speak on TikTok trying to Cancel Eminem.

Eminem has been trending since the past days after once again becoming a target of the cancel culture. This time by the Gen Z on Tik Tok after they discover his controversial lyrics in past songs, especially the violence in Rihanna assisted 2010 hit ‘Love The Way You Lie’.

Now in the latest episode of the ‘Brilliant Idiots’ podcast, Charlamagne Tha God and the stand-up comedian Andrew Schulz spoke on many things including the whole Cancel Eminem situation.

Tik Tok tryna cancel Eminem,” says Charlamagne Tha God. “I think it’s funny as f**k when kids go back to eras that they shouldn’t even be playing around in that box. If you were talking to a child, you’ll be like ‘yo don’t go in that 90’s box. They’re just playing old Eminem lyrics and doing what outrage culture does, trying to build a case against Eminem. But I’m gonna tell you why that will never work, that’s Eminem’s whole stick.

It’s tricky man because if you go back and listen to some Eminem songs or even like some skits. Eminem was one of the wildest people in history bro,” says Andrew Schulz.

Charlamagne Tha God continues, “Eminem was the reason we thought we could get away with that type of sh*t. In the era we grew up in, there’s a bar. It’s crazy but the funny part is just listening to kids be upset, you’re not gonna build a case against Eminem. Because all the people who have the power to cancel, whatever the f**k that means, they grew up loving Eminem too. Eminem was one of the biggest stars in the world, at one point the biggest star. He was everybody’s guilty pleasure. I never was a fan, like I respected him as a lyricist but I never was a die-hard Eminem fan but he has a lot of die-hard fans.

While it’s questionable whether fans want to “cancel” Eminem, he did make a reference to the issue in his tune “Tone Deaf.” “I won’t stop even if my hair becomes grey (I’m tone-deaf) / ‘Cause they won’t stop till they cancel me,” he rapped.

One especially humiliating freestyle, in which a TikTok user sang about how Eminem can’t be “cancelled,” heated the argument even more. Lil Nas X also mocked the scenario with a purposefully poor freestyle, all while smiling broadly. “We felt we could get away with that kind of stuff because of Eminem.” There is a bar in the age in which we grew up,” Charlamagne said. “What are you meant to do if your bars are the Howard Sterns, The Stars, Eminems, Wendy Williams, all these folks you hear spouting outrageous sh*t?”

Although he’s been in the center of criticism as recently as 2018, his previous content has been recognized as offensive. When he aimed a homophobic slur at Tyler, the Creator, the rapper received a lot of reaction, but he eventually expressed sorrow for the phrase.
