Birdman says NBA YoungBoy will be the biggest rapper in 5 years.
Birdman recently sat down with REVOLT’s Big Facts Podcast for a long insightful interview, where he touched many topics about his life, as well the Hip-Hop. Among other topics, Birdman talked about his infamous kiss with Lil Wayne, how no one can beat Wayne in a VERZUZ, and more. Birdman was also asked about who will be the biggest rap star in 5 years, for which he had huge praise for incarcerated rapper NBA Youngboy.
“I think NBA YoungBoy might be the biggest rapper,” said Birdman. “Ain’t no ni**a gone be bigger than NBA YoungBoy, numbers don’t lie, he’s the biggest YouTube artist right now in the world and he behind the wall. When that lil’ boy get his mind right and he comes from under this bullsh*t and understands who he is, you know, [Young] Thug and all them, they’re up in age, they’re 30, this ni**a 20. And you put a ni**a behind the wall, they become smart. They ain’t making him nothing but a monster. So when he come out, he’ll know one thing. The sh*t he was doing, he don’t got to do because he can get this lil’ ni**a here. NBA YoungBoy, that sh*t ain’t normal. He nothing normal. He special. Big money right there. I think he’s a billion-dollar ni**a. He gon’ get it in touring, merch, music. We can’t do nothing about it.”
The accomplishments of NBA YoungBoy are not going ignored. The rapper was crowned “King of YouTube” after exceeding every other rapper in the United States in terms of video views. YoungBoy Never Broke Again was also one of the top-selling rappers in the United States for the whole year. Birdman has already praised NBA Youngboy. Earlier this month, the imprisoned rapper signed a collaboration arrangement with Motown Records. It’s apparent that he’s planning huge things.
YoungBoy Never Broke Again was freed from a Louisiana jail on Tuesday to serve pre-trial house detention in Utah, according to the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The 21-year-old streaming phenom is likely to continue recording songs at his home studio in Utah whenever he is released from detention. According to Billboard, his most recent album, Sincerely, Kentrell, is his fourth to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, knocking Drake’s Certified Lover Boy out of the top position last month with over 186 million on-demand plays.
Not only will Drake, who was once signed to Young Money Entertainment, a subsidiary of Cash Money, be the wealthiest rapper, but NBA YoungBoy will also surpass his peers as the most prolific rhymer, according to Baby
“I told Drake he was a living legend the day I met him,” the New Orleans-bred music executive-rapper began. “He was like, ‘For real?’ The first day I met him and played his music, ’cause [Lil] Wayne played it for me. I’m like, ‘This nigga a legend.’ And when I met him, we shot the video in Miami. I said, ‘Bruh, you a living legend.’ He said, ‘For real?’
Along with that, Birdman also claimed that Drake will be the richest rapper in the world in the coming years. “Drake is like a different type of ni**a: very smart, business minded like a muthaf**ka. I’m wearing his sh*t right now. Nocta with Nike, come on man. Ain’t none of these ni**as got Nike sh*t, Nike clothes, Nike shoes. Come on, bruh. He’s real business. He’s one ni**a that I’ll say would be like, one of the richest rappers, ever.”
Birdman detailed the dynamics of his working relationships with Lil Wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj, and others during a long interview on Everyday Struggle this week. He also mentioned the musicians he’s been working with recently, namely Rich Gang and NBA YoungBoy.
In a recent in-depth interview on Everyday Struggle, Birdman opened up about his professional relationships with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Lil Wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj, and others. He shared insight into how he works with these artists, the dynamics of their collaborations, and the challenges they faced “Thug is like my little brother. I really sat down with Thug and taught him a lot. He lived with me for, like, 4 or 5 years. me and him really put in the work,” said Baby about his bond with the Slime General. “I’m expecting Young Thug to be a great artist and a great CEO also because I taught him a lot.”
YoungBoy and Birdman previously teamed on Top’s first album, Until Death Call My Name, on the tune “We Poppin.” Now, the team is back with a full-project collaboration, From The Bayou, which has been released as a mixtape. Although the project was first teased and recorded in 2018, there’s still a potential that more music has been added since then. The Louisiana connection between NBA YoungBoy and Birdman is undeniable, and the synergy will certainly yield in good music. The From The Bayou mixtape will give fans a chance to hear new music from both artists, as well as prospective collaborations with other Louisiana legends.
Birdman has nothing but respect for the artist he’s spent time with, YoungBoy Never Broke Again. “I think NBA YoungBoy is going to be one of the biggest musicians that we’ve ever seen,” the rap mogul added in passing. “I think he’s going to be a huge guy.”
Youngboy continues to make new records as he also made chart history as the rapper now becomes the youngest artist with 100 hits on Billboard Hot 100. The Top rapper’s latest song to chart is “Big Truck” which debuts at #100 on the US Hot 100. The rapper achieved the milestone at 23 years, six months and two weeks old.
With the release of his latest album “Richest Opp”, the rapper also earned another top 10 debuts on Billboard 200. This was Youngboy’s 15th top 10 album in 5 years. The Baton Rouge rapper now ties Drake and Future for the Billboard chart record, and only Jay-Z and Nas are ahead of him with 16 each.
