Akon Says He Was Actually Happier When He Was Poor

Akon addresses his statement of rich people having more problems than Poor.

Last month, actor Michael Kenneth Williams was passed away as he was found dead in his New York Apartment. After the shocking incident, TMZ had an interview with Akon, who revealed that he was close to “The Wire” Actor. During the conversation, Akon made a statement that offended a lot of people on the internet. Akon said that rich people had to go through more issues than the poor.

The famous and the rich go through more issues than the poor,” he said. “You know, when they say, ‘More money, more problems,’ that’s a real thing. So we got to check up on each other man, make sure everybody’s sound, the state of mind is intact, family’s good.

Now St. Louis, Missouri artist again had an interview, in which he addresses his last month’s controversial comments. “Sometimes, when comments like that are made, like, me, always speak according to what I’m personally going through myself,” he explains. “Nobody can sit there and tell me that I didn’t go through poverty. I was the young African kid barefooted playing soccer in a village with no electricity, no running water, I know what that felt like. And believe me, I know what poverty looks like. But I also know what success looks like. And from my personal experience, I’m having more problems successfully dealing with all that comes with success than I had when I was poor. I was actually happier when I was poor.

Akon continues, “I would like to apologize to those who got affected emotionally by my statement and made me look like I was arrogant. Money is not always the cure. There’s rich people right now committing suicide, dying over overdoses. It’s not the money, it’s the mindset. The money creates and breeds so much jealousy, envy, money brings about a lot of evil. Even the people you grew up loving, changed when money comes in the play, money changes the environment.

You know, this business creates this, like, environment where everyone’s wearing a mask, no one tells you what’s really going on in your life, so real friends can’t even really advise you ’cause we don’t really know what’s happening,” he told TMZ. “’Cause we put on this facade of success but yet behind the face there’s so much happening. The famous and the rich go through more issues than the poor. You know when they say ‘more money, more problems,’ that’s a real thing.
