EarthGang shares a new single “American Horror Story”.
EarthGang, the Hip-Hop duo of Olu and WowGr8 are back with some new music as they released a brand new song called “American Horror Story”. The track is produced by Natra Average, and it the first single off Dreamville artists upcoming album “Ghetto Gods”.
“Once upon a time across the far and wide / Blue abyss, the first people known to Earth thrived / Then one day a ship docked with evil intentions / That would change the course of the world and shape our lives,” raps Olu aka Johnny Venus.
“America worst nightmare come true / Pray over this verse hope you break through / Pour up the liquor and mix the juice / And crank this up at your barbecue,” raps WowGr8 aka Doctur Dot.
Despite the title’s reference to the campy FX programme of the same name,”American Horror Story” is all too real. With melodies somewhere between soulful and elegiac, EarthGang traces the carnage of the Black American experience from the first slave ship to gentrification. They make room for a bit of levity – a bit of flexing here, a wink to a sexual conquest there – but there’s an anxiety at the heart of the track that’s summarized on the hook: “Talk to me now, speak loud and clear / where would I be if I was not here?”
Last month, the team shared a new clip on Instagram, directed by Fred Saint Foster and narrated by fellow Atlantan and rap icon 2 Chainz (Future, Freebandz, Cease and Desist). Olu and WowGr8 construct a new sort of environment for their music in the video, giving listeners a taste of what they may anticipate aesthetically and musically (with a small preview of a forthcoming track). The follow-up to the duo’s critically acclaimed debut album, Mirrorland, is GHETTO GODS (2019).
It follows up EarthGang’s previous offerings like “Erykah” and “Options” Remix with Wale and Coi Leray.
