Jeezy drops his new album “The Recession 2” feat E-40, Demi Lovato & others.
After announcing it earlier this month, Jeezy has released his highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed 2008 project ‘The Recession 2‘. The new album contains 15 tracks with guest appearances from E-40, Demi Lovato, Lil Duval, Rick Ross, Ne-Yo, and more.
His third studio album, The Recession, is, however, one of his most unified and memorable works to date. The Recession, which hit just before Barack Obama was elected president in 2008, served as a sort of savior for us at a time when everything seemed to be crumbling around us. Jeezy returns with The Recession 2 12 years later.
The sequel to Recession, which was published 12 years ago, reflects the times much like the first film did. Jeezy said, “It just really inspired me to touch on some of that, but at the same time, motivate my people and give them something to help them through these times and to celebrate, because the shift is happening.”
“Things are happening, but not to forget about the moment, because it’s been surreal for even me. When I wrote the last Recession, we were celebrating. Barack Obama was coming into office. Things were different. It wasn’t this bad. So this is a different feel.”
With a series of announcements, he launched the new project. Jeezy first announced that he will be putting together a podcast called The (Re)session. The podcast creates meaningful interactions with entertainers by using the album’s song titles. He also announced that he has been promoted to Senior Advisor to the Chairman of Def Jam Records.
“It’s an honor to return to the label I’ve called home for 15 years, not only as an artist but as an executive,” Jeezy said about the position. “I spent most of my career learning from trial and error, I am happy to say that I am back on the team that helped me build my legacy from the streets to the boardroom and nothing makes me more fulfilled than being in a position to help guide and add value to the next generation.”
