Sevyn Streeter drops the new album “Drunken Wordz Sober Thoughtz.”
Sevyn Streeter continues dropping new material as the Haines City native releases her new album called “Drunken Wordz Sober Thoughtz.” It is her first project in four years, since 2017’s debut album “Girl Disrupted.” The album features guest appearances from Lucky Daye on “Feelz”, Jeremih on “Wet Dreamz”, BIA on “Nasty”, Chris Brown and ASAP Ferg on her hit “Guilty“, and more.
“My last album [2017’s Girl Disrupted], although there were songs I loved on it like ‘Before I Do,’ I honestly feel like it did not get the push it deserved,” Streeter told PEOPLE. “There were a lot of things going on with me at my last label, so I don’t really feel like this is my sophomore album.”
“There are a lot of firsts that are happening with this: It’s my first time being independent, my first time being able to be as creative as my brain will allow and the first album where I can really feel the efforts from everybody who is involved. It’s a really beautiful space to be in.”
“I can’t ever be too shy or afraid to say what I think or what I feel because that’s not human,” she says. “Each song on the project feels like a different emotion, and somebody out there is going to find a song on the project and go, ‘Oh my God. That’s exactly how I feel.’”
Alicia Keys (“New Day”), Ariana Grande (“The Way”), and Kelly Rowland (“Keep It Between Us”) have all recorded hit singles with the brilliant singer-songwriter, while her own singles “I Like It” and “It Won’t Stop” have become anthems for fans. The last few years had been filled with highs and lows for her – she had found love, gone through a breakup, and seen a loved one die from cancer – and so she retreated within and dug deep into her own identity. But now, she’s back with a new album to commemorate the best parts of life.
“I’m definitely not the same woman I was on my last project as I am now because I’ve been under the influence of a million different emotions,” Sevyn said during an interview with “The Joe Budden Podcast.” “It’s about being under the influence of a multitude of emotions and writing from all those spaces.”
