With 123,000 album-equivalent units sold in its first week, including 70,000 copies sold as pure album sales, Everything is Love debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 list. The album entered the list after four days of activity across all other digital stores and streaming platforms and less than six full days of activity on Tidal. With an extra 59,000 units sold, the album fell to number four on the list in its second week. The album lost eight places on the chart in its third week, selling 33,000 more copies.
There’s also a video for the song ‘Apesh*t,’ in addition to the nine tunes, with Beyoncé rapping while her husband pulls her back to play a hype man. The whole thing is shot in an empty Louver, in which the contemporary fascination in the reinterpretation and recontextualization of the art of the Western canon seems to be continued. The surprise LP, Everything Is Love, launched exclusively at Tidal Saturday afternoon, the digital streaming site, partly owned by Jay-Z. This new album featuring Bey and Jay on every track is released by some of the bigger names in hip-hop and R&B, at the middle of a month full of chart-top releases. Nas released his 11th solo album, Nasir, which was produced by longtime Kanye West Jay-Z employee less than 24 hours before. Of course, West is in the midst of five albums he produced, including his own album, ye, Pusha T’s Daytona, West and Kid Cudi’s Kids See Ghosts and an album.
