Nas and Hit-Boy drop the ‘EPMD’ video.
The duo of Nas and Hit-Boy continues releasing new material as they drop the official video for their track called “EPMD” which was released in February. The song appeared on the soundtrack to the ‘Judas and the Black Messiah‘ film.
The clip doesn’t shy away from Nas’ ability to be both Esco and a thought-provoking poet, thanks to his ability to be both. Nas reasserts his status as one of rap’s crown jewels by basking in the wealth that his fame has afforded him. Even as he floats through the courtyard of a mansion, he never strays too far from his roots. He foregoes his usual morning tea in favour of a double shot of Hennesy, and he makes sure to include his famous Queensbridge chain in practically every shot.
Nas raps, “EMPD, we back in business,” referring to EPMD’s 1992 album. “I visualize what it is, not what it isn’t/We in the mafia table next to the kitchen/Eating Michelin Star, counting a million,” says the narrator.
In the video, Hit-Boy, and Nas both pay homage to the original EMPD. They wear bucket hats in various pictures, a tribute to the band’s characteristic aesthetic. Near the end of the video, they take things a step further by putting their own touch on EMPD’s Unfinished Business album cover. Nas and Hit-Boy decided to wear the same attire while standing on top of a classic Mercedes-Benz instead of wearing similar outfits and sitting on the hoods of two separate luxury cars like Erick and Parrish did.
Nas and Hit-Boy’s last year’s joint project “King’s Disease” won the Best Rap Album trophy at the Grammies last month. Watch their new visual below.
