Cordae & Hit-Boy connects for the “Checkmate” music video.
Earlier this month, Cordae and Hit-Boy joined forces for a brand new collaboration titled “Checkmate” and the duo now teams up for the official music video. The song was released as part of the soundtrack to Madden NFL 23 game.
“It felt like yesterday I was just driving my grandma’s Chevrolet / From South Carolina to Maryland, I take the jet today / I’m still on the come up, I’m still building my resume / I still got a lot to prove but still I’m heavy weight,” raps Cordae.
The soundtrack featured 39 tracks, with music from Big K.R.I.T, Erica Banks, Snoop Dogg, Nas, Ty Dolla Sign, Wiz Khalifa, Killer Mike, Pusha T, Lil Uzi Vert, Nas, Joey Badass and more.
Hit-Boy disclosed that both he and Cordae had a good amount of heat in the cache during our cover story conversation with him earlier this year. “Again, I’ve probably got like an EP’s worth of s**t with Cordae,” he said. “You know, he’s a ‘rapper’ rapper, so he freestyles like to every beat. Then he’ll catch a vibe and be like, ‘Yeah this the one. Let’s load this up or I’m going to take this with me and do it at my studio,'” Hit-Boy explained. “That’s what happened. He started ‘Sinister’ at my studio, recorded a part of it, took it with him and just flushed it out then put Wayne on it.”
