Megan Thee Stallion & Cardi B performs at Grammys 2021.
After winning two Grammys Awards in ‘Best Rap Performance‘ and ‘Best New Artist‘ categories earlier tonight, Megan Thee Stallion took the stage for a much-awaited performance.
The two rappers performed their popular track, which notably created waves on social media after it was released in August for its controversial lyrics, at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night. “If you have small children in the room, just tell them it’s a song about giving a cat a bath,” Grammys presenter Trevor Noah said ahead of the performance.
The Rap star performed a medley of her songs ‘Body‘, ‘Savage‘, ‘Up‘ and ‘Wap‘ for which she was joined by Cardi B.
The song “WAP” was published in the summer of 2020, and it quickly divided listeners. While others hailed the song as an anthem for female empowerment, several conservative personalities attacked its lyrics as being too sexual and anti-feminist. In a 2020 interview on The Kyle and Jackie O Show, Cardi addressed the criticism and said that the song wasn’t meant for children. “The people that the song bothers are usually conservatives or really religious people,” she explained “But my thing is, I grew up listening to this type of music. Other people might think it’s strange and vulgar, but to me, it’s almost like really normal, you know what I’m saying? … No, of course I don’t want my child to listen to this song and everything. It’s for adults.”
