The album debuted at 118 on the Billboard 200 list in the United States, selling 17,000 copies in its first week. As of June 2016, the album had sold 90,000 copies in the United States.
Before his ascent to popularity, YG’s existence on the streets of Compton is chronicled in this film. Blame It On the Streets was co-written by YG and Darryl “Lucky” Rodgers and is inspired by two of the rapper’s album tracks: “BPT,” about YG’s indoctrination into the famed Piru Bloods gang, and “Meet the Flockers,” about his experience as a home thief. “It’s a gang of your homies,” YG says, “so it’s a flock of y’all out lurking, searching for some s—t to rob.” “That’s why it’s referred to as flocking.” I’m basically showing you what goes on behind the scenes of those tunes.
