Westside Boogie Recalls How Rihanna Changed His Life, Relationship With Eminem & More

Westside Boogie talks about his upcoming album, Eminem and more.

Back in May, Westside Boogie revealed that he played his new album to Eminem, and received the Green signal for the release. However, the new project from Shady Records is still not dropped, but he continues to release some freebies for the fans. The Compton rapper recently sat down with Smoothvega for an interview on the Nothing Beats Experience podcast, where he spoke on many topics, including Rihanna, Eminem, mental health, new album and more.

Boogie recalls how a repost from Rihanna changed his life. “I was on tour with Denzel Curry when Rihanna sang my ‘Ni**a Needs’ song,” he said. “I had been signed to Interscope for couple of years and I still only had like 10k followers. So, when Rihanna posted me, I thought it was fake, I thought it was fake page. She posted me and my followers went up from 10K to 150k in like 30 minutes. That’s the power of Rihanna. So Rihanna singlehandedly changed my career forever. I’m forever grateful for her.”

“We went to the studio in Detroit,” he said about Eminem. “It’s always the same thing with Tracy: “Marshall’s ready for you now,” “Marshall’s ready to see you.” He’s like freaking president. And that’s the part that makes me nervous when she come by like that. Tracy, I love her but she scares me too. Eminem is dope. Before I met him, I was like ‘that’s one of the biggest rapper ever, he is not gonna act like human but then when I met him, he was like just another person trying to figure life out and that’s dope to me. He even knew my songs that was not popular. He knew those songs. He was telling me details about those songs and certain rhyme schemes I did. He was praising my bars it was best thing ever. I was like, oh, I love him. He really cares about the craft. He is so competitive, he’s not going to make you feel support, he going to kill everybody. [laughs] That’s what amazing about him.”

“Best thing with working with Shady is that they just let me do my thing,” he said about new album. “Eminem just waits for me to bring him my new music to him. He does not put too much pressure on me. An album is done but I still have to go to the final Eminem-stage. I played the album to him couple of months ago. My problem is I always hate my songs from couple of months ago. I’m always critiquing myself. I probably have 5 to 10 album material because of that. I have a title of the album but I can’t say it.”

“I’m finally at a space to where I’m really focused on figuring out paperwork and stuff out now, so now I’m just trolling people at this point. But yeah album done, I’m ready to drop this one and drop another one. I’m just grateful that my fans still waited this long, cause I’d be pissed.”

“I mean, Everythings For Sale is really like… I feel like that’s an album that grows on you, which is the kind of album that you want. I didn’t listen to it in one week, and then like, listen to something else. I literally like …it just grew on me, the more I listened to it, the more I liked it, and the more I listened to it. I like those kinds of albums where it’s like, that’s timeless in a way.”

Compton-bred rapper Westside Boogie announced the forthcoming release of his sophomore album More Black Superheroes on Monday, adding to what has already been a banner year for West Coast rap (June 13).

The 12-track record, his second for Eminem’s Shady Records, debuts on June 17 and features Snoop Dogg, Soulja Boy, Shelley (a.k.a. DRAM), Smino, Teezo Touchdown, Kalan.FrFr, and Mamii. Boogie stands proudly next to his son and two other young boys on the record cover, dressed in a tank shirt and durag.

A few months back, Eminem also teased a collaboration between Westside Boogie and the newest Shady Records signee Grip.
