J. Cole releases The Off-Season Documentary called “Applying Pressure”.
Last week, J. Cole made his return with an announcement of his new album “The Off-Season” and revealed that it will release on May 14th. After that, he dropped the first taste off the project with the release of the song called “Interlude“. And now like he does around the release of every album, J. Cole has dropped his new The Off-Season Documentary called “Applying Pressure” which he announced yesterday with the trailer. The Documentary also features an appearance from 21 Savage.
“This is the moment that a lot of your favorite rappers hit a crossroad,” says J. Cole. “Are you okay with getting comfortable? Can you leave no stone unturned creatively? And when I thought about that, I was like, ‘Nah, I’m not cool with that.’”
“Comfort is the Enemy,” “Father Time,” “The Climb Back,” and “Applying Pressure” are the four chapters of the short film. Cole gives fans a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the studio as well as personal events from the album’s making. Cole is also interviewed by American rapper 21 Savage in the film. Cole talks about modifying his work schedule and avoiding complacency after becoming a father in the first two chapters. Cole discusses the album’s inspiration in the third and fourth chapters, as well as suffering writer’s block and comparing his hip hop career to basketball.
