Watch Big Daddy Kane Says Eminem is Kobe Bryant of Hip-Hop

Big Daddy Kane talks about Kobe Bryant, compares with Eminem.

The legend and one of the Goats of Hip-Hop, Big Daddy Kane joined Cherie’s World for their this week’s podcast episode where he talked about the death of the NBA legend Kobe Bryant and who would be Kobe of Hip-Hop. He was asked How do he feel about the loss of Kobe Bryant to which he said, “I was just on Instagram and I saw a post and said no not Kobe, so I just googled it and when I saw what happened, I was really in a state of shock, you know like I was really in a state of shock, like wow this is real you know, this was a young brother, you know one of the Greats you know, I would probably have him in my Top 5, you know I mean one of the Greats in the NBA.” Later he was asked If Jay Z is Michael Jordan of Hip-Hop then who he thinks would be Hip-Hop’s Kobe Bryant to which Big Daddy Kane replied, “I don’t know what’s the generation after Jay? I don’t know, would be Eminem.

BDK was given the opportunity to elaborate on his statement. He claims that there was a generation after Jay-Z, Biggie, Tupac, and Nas and that Eminem, Fabulous, and Ludacris were the top rappers of that era. Eminem, based on his overall rapping ability, could be compared to Kobe Bryant.

That era would be the era after JAY-Z, Nas, Biggie, Tupac, so that would be, I assume, Eminem, Jadakiss, Fabolous, and Ludacris, maybe. So I guess those would be the elites you would consider the next Kobe ’cause that’s the next era. It would be one of them. I guess lyrically, my favorites would be Em, Jada, and Fabolous. I don’t really know where he [the interviewer] was going with it — like are you saying as far as what I do? ‘Cause for me it was more than lyrical. So if you basing it just on lyrics, I would probably go with Em. If you’re basing it on the next Kane, then I would probably go with Fabolous.

Eminem has been dubbed the “Kobe Bryant of rap” by Big Daddy Kane, and he’s not far off, as both have put up incredible numbers and are considered legends in their respective fields. Kobe Bryant was a 20-year NBA veteran who was named to 18 all-star teams, won five NBA championships, two Finals MVPs, and was named league MVP in 2008. In 2014, he also broke Michael Jordan’s scoring record. In 2018, he was even nominated for an Academy Award.
