Taylor Swift breaks an album sales Tie with Eminem.
Taylor Swift stunned fans on Thursday, July 23rd, by announcing her eighth studio album, ‘folklore,’ which will be released the next day. Swift’s new surprise attack technique hasn’t hampered her commercial success in the least, despite breaking her regular record cycle with only 11 months since her last project, “Lover.” Pop Crave takes a look at some of the records and accolades that the songstress has received thus far as a result of her work with folklore. Taylor Swift’s new album “folklore” continues breaking records as she earned the biggest Billboard 200 debut this year, which is her seventh number 1 album. This makes her the first woman artist in music with seven Billboard 200 number 1 albums.

After ‘folklore’ sold over 615k copies in its first week, Taylor Swift becomes the first artist to have seven different albums, which sold at least 500k copies in a single week, since Nielsen Music/MRC Data began electronically tracking music sales in 1991. Swift’s albums Fearless (2008), Speak Now (2010), Red (2012), 1989 (2014), Reputation (2017), Lover (2019), and now Folklore have all sold at least 500,000 copies (2020). Four of those albums sold over a million copies in their first few weeks.
She breaks the tie with the Detroit rapper Eminem, who has six different albums with sales over 500k in a week.
Folklore has the greatest first day on Spotify for a 2020 album, with over 80.6 million worldwide plays, breaking the Guinness World Record for the most having opened streaming for a female artist, overtaking Ariana Grande’s Thank U, Next. “Cardigan” topped the worldwide Spotify chart with 7.742 million streams, the most for a female artist’s debut day in 2020.
Update: Now, she has surpassed the rapper in this regard, and he may never catch up, since his previous three full-length albums have all failed to reach the half-million sales threshold in their first weeks, whereas Swift has had no trouble replicating her success.
